Harlem's Heaven Hats worn by Larry Blackmon of Cameo back in the day.

As I look back on my early days as a Milliner, there are great memories of creating looks for celebrities. Before facebook, twitter, and the like, it was difficult to get your work out there, We had to catch the video on television and try to tape it on the VCR. I feel so lucky to still be in the game since the 80's and have social media on my team.
I often google my name, EVETTA PETTY, and my company name, HARLEM'S HEAVEN HATS, just to see what new press we have. I searched the hot guy group from back in the day, Cameo and up popped Larry Blackmon and Cameo on the Arsenio Hall Show , singing" WORD UP" via youtube. And BAM!!!  LARRY BLACKMON was wearing one of several HATS that I made for CAMEO back then. This big oversized black and white polka dot cap that now reminds me of a pan of jiffy pop, was making quite a fashion statement. Currently my claim to fame is a feather fascinator and my stenciled felt hats. I have come a long way and I just love it!!!!

Harlem's Heaven Hats are in the Press!

The May 9th Mother's Day issue of Jet Magazine gave us a two page profile. It talks about our history as hat makers down through the generations. Starting with our matriarch Maxine Buckner down to me, Evetta Petty our current in house designer. On Sunday, May 8th, in the New York Times, in Bill Cunningham's column "Mad Hats", he has photographed the top 44 hats out of 1,300 guest that attended the annual Luncheon of the Womens Committee of the Central Park Conservancy. Our very dramatic pink floral hat was included in the selection of Mad Hats. The July 5th issue of Vibe.com featured our red, white and blue Fedora Hat worn by Mashonda. The August 2011 issue of Essence Magazine has just hit the stands, the article Chic Chapeaus!, features three hats from harlemsheaven.com. The stylists are constantly busy making fashion magic. And we love it!
